Northwood 1-2 Godalming Town

A hard fought victory on a difficult pitch saw Godalming leave Chestnut Avenue with all three points. The home side took the lead after 13 minutes, when Brad Hewitt fired in from12 yards, after a previous effort had been well blocked byAntonio Simeone. Godalming fought back, and were nearly level when a Northwood defender diverted the ball onto his own crossbar. Scott Harris then had a golden chance to equalise, but put his close range effort over the crossbar. Northwood won a penalty just before half time, when Adam Foulser fouled in the area. Romaine Walker stepped up but his weak penalty was easily saved by stand-in keeper Asen Agov.

The Gs didn’t waste time in grabbing an equaliser, as just 14 seconds into the second half, Scott Harris headed Godalming level. Harris met a cross from the right, and his header looped over keeper James Reading into the net. It was Godalming’s turn to be awarded a penalty with 15 minutes left, when a Northwood defender handled in the box. Jack Broome stepped up to take the penalty, but fired his effort over the bar. Five minutes later Jamie McClurg found space in the right hand side of the penalty area, and struck a powerful shot which Reading got hands to, but could not stop from going into the net. The drama however was not over. In the dying seconds the home side crossed from the right hand side, and after initially hitting the bar the ball found its way into the net. Northwood celebrations were cut short when they saw the linesman had his flag raised for a handball, and their over the top protestations saw player-manager Mark Burgess receive a red card.
