Godalming Town 1-1 Swindon Supermarine

musgrove

Godalming put up a strong performance against a high flying Swindon Supermarine, and will be disappointed not to have taken all three points. The first half was a close affair, with Godalming having the better chances of the two sides. Gavin Miller and Calum Nimmo both saw headers go over the crossbar, whilst Jack Mazzone and Adam Everiss both forced fine saves from Kent Kauppinen in the Swindon goal.

The second half started much the same, with Godalming having a one on one chance, but Mazzone’s shot was saved by Kauppinen. Swindon took the lead against the run of play on 62 minutes, when Luke Abrahat controlled a high ball well and volleyed an unstoppable shot off the underside of the bar. Godalming fought back and equalised on 74 minutes when a Jack Broome corner was met by Chris Musgrove, who sidefooted in from 6 yards.

Godalming lose out on penalties

cambo

Godalming exited the Surrey Senior Cup after a penalty defeat to Camberley Town, after the match had finished 2-2. Godalming had the best chances in the opening exchanges, with Jack Mazzone first firing narrowly past the Camberley post, then having a shot acrobatically tipped over the bar by O’Neal Garniss. Josh Daniels, making his first start for the Gs, had the best chance of the half as he broke through one on one with the keeper, but his shot was saved. Godalming took the lead on 41 minutes, when an Adam Everiss cross was put into the net by a Camberley defender..

The visitors equalised just 13 seconds into the second half, when a cross found Emmanuel Quarshie unmarked who finished past Courtnage. De St Croix then struck for Godalming with a low shot to make it 2-1, but 8 minutes later Brad Smith’s scuffed shot snuck inside Courtnage’s post to make it 2-2. The scores stayed level through to 90 minutes, and then through extra time, with both sides looking tired and struggling to create many chances.

A penalty shootout followed, and both sides scored their first five penalties, with James Wade then missing Godalming’s sixth, putting the ball over the bar. Emmanuel Quarshie then stepped up to score the winning penalty for Camberley.

Godalming XI: Courtnage, Broome, Musgrove, Nimmo, Palmer (MacFarlane), De St Croix, Kiri (Miller), Wade, Everiss, Mazzone, Daniels (Watkins).

Godalming Town 1-3 Bridgwater Town

kiri

Godalming fell to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Bridgwater Town. The hosts got off to the best possible start when Kristian Miller hit a stunning volley into the top corner from 30 yards after only 5 minutes. The visitors doubled their lead on 35 minutes when Joe Bushin capitalised on some slack defending to head past a stranded Justin Courtnage. Godalming replied three minutes later, Jack Mazzone got on the end of a low cross flicked on by Purdy to finish past Chris Wright.

Godalming ramped up the pressure in the second half, with Adam Everiss firing over from close range, and Mazzone going close. Unfortunately for Godalming Joe Bushin sealed the points for Bridgwater with a tame effort that somehow squirmed past Courtnage on 71 minutes. The Gs continued to pressure the visitors, but a lack of cutting edge along with some defensive errors ultimately proved costly.

North Leigh 5-0 Godalming Town

northleigh

Godalming’s inconsistent league form continued, with a 5-0 defeat at Eynsham Park to North Leigh. Godalming made the better start, shooting down the significant slope. Ten minutes in, Jack Mazzone was fouled by the North Leigh keeper, who was diving for the ball on the edge of the penalty area. The penalty appeals were turned down by the referee, and with the almost non-existent pitch markings, no one could be sure. Graeme Purdy was denied a few minutes later after his header was kept out by the legs of the keeper, and then Dan Read was denied after a fine save from a close range volley. Godalming’s failure to convert their chances was punished on 29 minutes, as Morgan Williams fired low past Courtnage. Connor McDonagh then doubled the home sides lead on 41 minutes after some poor defending.

North Leigh put the game beyond doubt in the 53rd minute, when Connor McDonagh scored his second. An uneventful half ensued, with the home side looking comfortable and Godalming failing to test the North Leigh keeper. Michael Alexis scored a long range effort on 82 minutes, and Josh Dutton-Black finished the scoring in the third minute of injury time.

Stratford Town 1-3 Godalming Town

mazzone

Godalming’s third league victory in a row came at the expense of Stratford Town, after a 3-1 victory at the DCS Stadium.

The Gs got off to the perfect start, taking the lead after only 7 minutes. An in swinging corner from Jack Broome was met by Victor Kiri, whose stooping header beat the Stratford keeper at the near post. Godalming doubled their lead 12 minutes later when Chris Musgrove met another Broome corner, this time at the far post, to sidefoot past the keeper. Godalming kept up the pressure, and 3 minutes later it was 3-0. Mark Watkins fed the ball through for Jack Mazzone, who finished past the keeper for his first goal for the Gs. Five minutes later Godalming were reduced to ten men, when Chris Musgrove was sent off after bringing the forward down and being the last man. The home sides best chance of the half came from a snapshot straight a Courtnage from 12 yards.

Godalming defended resolutely in the second half, with Justin Courtnage making a couple of good stops. Stratford pulled one back on 66 minutes through Richard Gregory, who struck low and hard past Courtnage from 20 yards. Stratford pressured the Godalming goal, but the defence stood firm to hold out for an impressive victory.

Godalming Town 3-0 Didcot Town

musgrove

A much improved performance from Godalming saw them run out 3-0 victors over Didcot Town at Wey Court.

Victor Kiri, Graeme Purdy and Adam Everiss returned to the starting XI, at the expense of the injured Dan Seabrook and Calum Nimmo, and Jack Mazzone who was not fully fit. Mark Watkins saw a long range effort fly past the Didcot post early on in a bright start for the Gs. The deadlock was broken on 15 minutes, when a Jack Broome free kick was met by the head of Chris Musgrove, who looped a header under the crossbar past Gareth Tucker. Watkins was then denied by a fine reflex save from Tucker, whilst the visitors came close to equalising when Taylor James’ free-kick struck the top of the crossbar.

Dan Read went close to doubling the Gs lead early in the second half, but his effort was cleared off the line by Didcot captain Luke Cornell. Godalming were then reduced to ten men, when Mark Watkins picked up his second yellow following a tackle on a Didcot defender. Despite being a man light, Godalming doubled their lead on the 70 minute mark. Tarome Hemmings won the ball in the Godalming half, before playing a one-two with Purdy, then Hemmings released Read with an accurate through ball, who slotted the ball low past the keeper. Chris Musgrove added his second off the night on 85 minutes, heading home from a Jack Broome corner.

Godalming XI: Courtnage, MacFarlane, Miller, Musgrove, Everiss, Broome, Hemmings, Kiri (De St Croix), Watkins, Read (Bosma), Purdy (Mazzone).
