Alton Town 0-3 Godalming Town

Three well worked goals helped Godalming Town achieve a comfortable pre-season victory at Wessex League side Alton Town.

The Gs dominated from the off and had early chances through Louis Hutton and Darren Wheeler, with Tom Willment also going close at the far post. As the first half went on the visitors began to produce some neat football and were rewarded when, half an hour in, Louis Hutton combined with Liam Roberts and brother Will before slotting home from close range.

Andy Hunt’s men doubled their lead in the 67th minute. Will Hutton, involved in each of the 3 goals, crossed from the right allowing Graeme Purdy to chest the ball down neatly to Darren Wheeler, who hit a fine first time shot into the far corner. Only 5 minutes passed before the 3rd goal came, this time substitute Jack Mazzone finishing coolly having been put through by Will Hutton.

After that the Gs should have added to their tally with Mazzone, Purdy and George Frith all having good opportunities, but Andy Hunt will be pleased with his side’s confident performance. They host Ryman Premier side Metropolitan Police at Wey Court on Saturday.

Godalming Town squad: Ossai; Sowden, Willment, Roberts, L. Hutton, Brown, Wheeler, Frith, Howard, Purdy, Cornell, W. Hutton, Mazzone, Musgrove, Davis.

Hartley Wintney 4-4 Godalming Town

There were goals galore as Godalming Town’s pre-season got underway with a 4-4 draw against Combined Counties Premier Division side Hartley Witney at the Aldershot Garrison 3G.

A familiar looking Gs squad found first half opportunities limited, though Steve Brown gave them the lead after 37 minutes following a Graeme Purdy lay off. However, the step 5 team levelled with 3 minutes before the interval via a direct free kick on the edge of the box.

A quartet of goals, 2 for both sides, game in just 15 minutes after the interval with Adam Cornell scoring both of Godalming’s strikes. The Row then took the lead again but with 5 minutes remaining Louis Hutton equalised following a parry from Craig Atkinson.

Andy Hunt’s men travel to Alton Town on Tuesday night before hosting Metropolitan Police on Saturday 25th. New signing Steve Laidler, along with Jack Mazzone and Charlie Hutton were all unavailable whilst a knee injury kept Nick Hutchings out.
