Despite dominating large portions of the game, Godalming’s inability to convert chances proved costly as a late Foulser equaliser rescued a point.
A bright opening to the game from Godalming saw Johhny Dyer have a close range effort saved by Ben Goode. A swift counter attack from the home side saw Hayes dangerman Tony Mendy catch Jake Somerville out of position and pass the ball into the net. Ben Edwards headed the ball agonisingly wide from a corner, whilst Johnnie Dyer went close once again. Another quick break from the home side caught Godalming out, as a cross from the left wing was tapped home by Andrew Harewood. Godalming continued to dominate proceedings, but lacked the cutting edge to narrow the deficit.
The second half played out much like the first, Godalming controlling the play but the shots and headers either flew wide or straight at the Hayes keeper. The breakthrough finally came when A low Ryan Lake free-kick sneaked into the bottom corner. Scott Harris and Dan Read both had efforts which went straight down the keeper’s throat. The pressure paid off once more when an outswinging corner from Wheeler saw Hayes keeper Goode caught in no-mans land, allow Adam Foulser to rise above everyone and head the ball into the unguarded net with only 1 minute of normal time left. A frantic stoppage time saw chances for both sides, but the Gs had to settle for a draw and rue their poor finishing.
