A dominant display from Godalming saw them run out 5-1 winners at Ashford Town. The Gs started the game brightly, and were rewarded for this start when a left wing cross from Darren Wheeler was met by Johnnie Dyer, who headed past former Gs keeper Kyle Merson in the 9th minute. Dan Read then went close for Godalming, whilst Jake Somerville tipped away a powerful drive from Ashford’s Alex Duffy.
Dyer doubled Godalming’s lead in the 56th minute, against heading home from a Wheeler cross. Ashford pulled one back in the 68th minute, when a looping cross was deflected in. A few minutes later Somerville pulled of a great reaction save, sticking a hand to stop what looked a certain goal. Johnnie Dyer settled the Gs nerves in the 77th minute, when he scrambled the ball in after a back post header from Adam Foulser. A slice of luck saw Godalming go 4-1 up, after Merson had saved well from Warren Harris, the ball rebounded off the incoming Ashford defender and into the net. Warren Harris put the icing on the cake in the final minute, ghosting in at the back post to head into the net.
Godalming travel to Chessington & Hook on Tuesday in the Surrey Senior Cup, before welcoming Slough Town to Wey Court on Saturday.
