A hat-trick from Johnnie Dyer in between goals from George Short and Scott Harris secured an impressive victory for the Gs at Aylesbury on Thrusday night. Godalming were rewarded for dominating the opening exchanges with a goal on 25 minutes. A Darren Wheeler free-kick found George Short free at the far post, who headed low into the bottom corner. Jake Somerville was called into action for the first time to tip over a Luke Abraham cross. The Gs then doubled their lead on 40 minutes, when Dan Read broke through the home defence, and squared the ball to Dyer who finished accurately into the bottom corner. It was nearly 3-0 a minute later when Wheeler’s looping cross/shot left keeper Charles stranded, but the ball bounced back off the crossbar.
A quiet opening to the second half was soon ended when Dyer made it 3-0, clipping the ball into the corner after a low cross from Warren Harris. Somerville was alert to the danger when Jamie Connor was put through, and smothered the ball well. George Short went close for the Gs with a low strike from 25 yards, which was beaten away by Charles. Dyer grabbed his hat-trick with 10 minutes remaining, superbly volleying home another Warren Harris cross. There was still time for a fifth when a defensive mix-up allowed Scott Harris through to poke the ball past the keeper.
Godalming now face Leighton Town at home on Saturday, before welcoming the in-form Beaconsfield SYCOB to Wey Court on Tuesday.
