Godalming progressed through to the 3rd round of the Surrey Senior Cup after a 6-1 demolition of Combined Counties Premier side Banstead Athletic. The Gs made 5 changes to Saturday’s lineup, and it was one of those, Dan Read, who opened the scoring. Darren Wheeler’s curling effort came back off the post, with Read able to finish the rebound. Read turned from goalscorer to provider when Jon Palmer met his cross on the half volley, firing past Colin Harris. Banstead halved the deficit via a Andy Cheadle penalty, but Palmer soon restored the 2 goal lead with a flying header from a superb Dan Read cross.
Ben Edwards ghosted into the box for Town’s fourth on 55 minutes, and 8 minutes later he got his second with a neat finish past Harris. Edwards completed his hat trick on 84 minutes, with a fine shot from the edge of the area.
Godalming will face either Sutton United or Epsom & Ewell away in the next round.
