Godalming twice came from behind to earn a point at Bridgwater Town on Tuesday, with goals coming from Jack Mazzone and Graeme Purdy.
With Lee Wigley injured and Chris Musgrove unavailable, Godalming started with Gavin Miller and Jack Broome as centre backs. An energetic start by the hosts saw them come close twice in the opening 10 minutes, with Karim Rendell having a shot well saved by Zaki Oualah, and then Mitchell Page shooting narrowly wide. Bridgwater made the breakthrough on 12 minutes, with the ball being cleared to the edge of the penalty box, only for Alex Faux to fire a low shot into the bottom corner. Jack Mazzone had Godalming’s first chance of the match, shooting over from 20 yards. On 25 minutes Godalming drew level, with Mazzone finding the back of the net this time. After skipping one challenge, and then cutting inside the defender, he finished superbly low into the bottom corner, with the ball clipping the post on its way in. Two minutes later Bridgwater restored their lead, with Kyle Tooze finishing well after his jinking run. Bridgwater had chances to extend their lead as the half drew on, but were denied by Zaki Oualah.
Bridgwater were mostly restricted to long range efforts and set pieces in the second half, looking to sit on their lead rather than extend it. Graeme Purdy came off the bench for Godalming, returning from suspension whilst Gavin Miller was forced off through injury, meaning a centre back pairing of Jack Broome and Victor Kiri for the remainder. Jack Mazzone nearly leveled for Godalming, but he flashed his shot narrowly wide of the post. Godalming did find an equaliser on 68 minutes, when a free kick was lofted into the box, and Purdy challenged the goalkeeper, getting the final touch as the ball bounced over the line with the keeper on the floor. Both sides had chances to win the match in an even final 20 minutes, but neither side could find the valuable goal.
