Godalming fell to their first league defeat since 10th November, at the hands of Chertsey Town. Despite a bright start from the Gs, the home side took the lead in the 27th minute when McGarry converted from the penalty spot after Jake Somerville had fouled in the area. Ben Edwards forced a good save from the Chertsey keeper from a header, but Godalming’s best chance to equalise came on the stroke of half time. Johnnie Dyer was tripped in the penalty area, but Darren Wheeler’s penalty was saved by Ross, low to his left.
Godalming piled on the pressure in the second half, and it looked as though they had equalised when Johnnie Dyer capitalised on a missed punch by the Chertsey keeper, only for the ref to blow for a foul on the keeper. Sub Scott Harris forced a fine save from Ross after his header looked destined for the back of the net. Jon Palmer and Adam Foulser went close in the closing stages, but Chertsey held out for the three points.
Godalming travel to Dorking Wanderers in the Surrey Senior Cup on Tuesday, before travelling to North Greenford on Saturday.
