Dan Read’s second half strike gave Godalming all three points and meant that Dulwich fell to their first home league defeat of the season. The first half was a scrappy affair, with neither side being able to stamp their authority on the game. Dulwich came closest, when a free kick looked destined for the net, until Jake Somerville sprang to acrobatically to tip the ball around the post.
The second half continued much in the same vein as the first, with Godalming’s defence ensuring that Dulwich struggled to fashion any clear cut chances. The Gs best chance of the game fell to Darren Wheeler, whose effort was saved by the keeper only for Dan Read to be sharpest to rebound and put the ball into the empty net. Godalming’s defence stood firm to the oncoming Dulwich attacks, with Somerville first tipping over after a close range header, and then with five minutes left somehow acrobatically keeping an effort out that seemed destined for the back of the net.
A solid defensive performance was key in getting the three points, with a number of fantastic from Somerville saves being the highlight. Godalming travel to Whitstable Town next Saturday, with a coach being available to supporters. To book your places please email email@example.com or call Glenn on 07790 332587.
