Godalming Town exited the FA Cup at the 1st Qualifying Round after a pulsating tie against Dulwich Hamlet. The Gs went close to an early lead, but Scott Harris’ far post header rebounded back off the post. The home side took the lead after 20 minutes, when Ellis Green cut in from the right a struck a fierce low shot past Somerville. It was then Dulwich’s turn to hit the post, Carl Wilson-Denis’ effort rebounding off the inside of the woodwork. Jamie McClurg equalised for Godalming with a left footed curling shot, which left the keeper no chance. Dulwich pushed hard for the winner late on, but the Gs defence held out, forcing extra time.
Callum Martin gave Dulwich the lead in the first minute of extra time, as he converted Green’s cross. The lead only last 5 minutes, as a free kick into the area was diverted back across the goal, leaving Ryan Lake a simple header from six yards.
Dan Read and Wes Harrison put Godalming’s first two penalties over the bar, with Dulwich scoring their first, and Somerville saving their second. Jack Broome scored the Gs third, but Dulwich converted their third, and with Ryan Lake’s spot kick being saved, Dulwich scored their third, meaning Godalming lose 3-1.
The Gs are in FA Trophy action at Wey Court this weekend, as they face Southern South and West side North Leigh. Kick off 3pm.
