Fanham Town 3-1 Godalming
Apart from being without Dave Oppong, Connor Gayle, Curtis Osamo and Jordan Bird neither of the Sowden brothers were present. Ethan Kaiser was on the bench, but injured and limping, while Kenny Kassabante was in the starting line-up, but still recovering from a ligament strain and not at full power.
On the plus side Ashley Wright made a return to the squad, as did Micah Archer. I cannot confirm who all the other players were, as they were from the development squad and new to me. Les and his team clearly had a real problem with the absence of experienced centre backs and the solution was to put Pat Cox in the role.
The G’s squad was Jordan Knight in goal, Dom Hardisty and Ashley Wright as the full backs, Kai Bartlett and Pat Cox as the centre-back pairing, Jack Howard, Chris Bourke and Levi Crew in the midfield Kamal McEwan on the left wing, Jeff Yuhou up front in the number nine shirt and Kenny Kassabante on the right.
As has been the case in several recent games the G’s started quite brightly and in the opening minutes Kamal delivered a good low cross, which I think Jeff first got his boot to and the home keeper probably parried the shot only to see Kenny on hand to calmly side foot the ball into the net.
Unfortunately, the welcome feeling of joy for the large contingent of Godalming supporters that swelled the crowd did not last that long. About ten minutes. An attack on Farnham’s left saw Jordan race forward to the corner of his area, but the Farnham player lifted the ball over him from some way out, dropping into the net.

Early in the second half the G’s hit the crossbar from a free kick hit by Kamal I believe. But only two minutes later the home side went ahead catching the Gs on the break.
There was quite a bit of work to do for the Gs defence and Pat Cox was outstanding in the centre, winning everything in the air and marshalling the troops. But the pressure from the home side finally told as they got their third about ten minutes from full time.
In the absence of Pat Cox in the attack Jeff was called upon to play the part of the target man and he did a great job for me against some lumpy centre backs, although this meant he was not unleashed upon the Farnham defence in the wide positions as we are used to seeing.

Borvil status: Last time we visited Farnham they knew nothing of the wonders of Bovril. Sadly, there has been no enlightenment since then so bottles of cold water was all we drank.
