A solid display saw Godalming run out 1-0 winners against Faversham Town. The Gs started brightly, and Dan Read nearly gave Godalming the lead but for a good save from Rob French. A goalmouth scramble at the other end saw the ball twice cleared off the line. Godalming took the lead after 25 minutes when a push on Antonio Simeone from a corner was spotted by the referee. Darren Wheeler stepped up to convert his 2nd penalty in 3 matches.
Faversham were reduced to ten men early in the second half when an elbow from Sam Robinson caught Jon Palmer, and Robinson was duly sent off. The sending off seemed to spur Faversham on, who for most of the half had the better of the possession and the chances, with Godalming trying to hit the hosts on the break. Despite their pressure, Faversham couldn’t find a way through the Gs defence, who kept a second successive clean sheet for only the second time this season.
Godalming return to Kent on Tuesday night to face Whitstable Town, kick off 7.45pm.
