Godalming 3 – 0 FC Deportivo Gallicia

Wow – at last a clean sheet and three points!  What a relief, a first win of the season and that lifts us off the bottom of the League, at last. After some pretty good performances in the last couple of weeks, where we did not come away with anything, it was nothing less than the lads deserved. As far as deserving something is concerned Francis Sey must be well up there. He has been outstanding and deservedly came away with a hat trick after another fine performance of skill and hard work, chasing and scrapping for the ball.

The G’s fielded almost the same starting eleven that did so well last week at Rusthall apart from Joe Lewis returning after suspension, coming in to partner Ethan Kaiser, which meant Rory Sellick moved to right back and Dom Hardisty was on the bench along with Jordan Cavender, Saul Grant, Charlie Chennel and George Peterkin.

For once we started the game with Jordan Knight and Darren Wheeler looking to get the ball out of defence quickly and behind the opposition defence. This worked well when after no more than a couple of minutes from the start Francis chased down such a high ball over the top and with his pace and determination got in behind the opposition number 2 and nicked the ball on the edge of the area, before placing it confidently in the net.

What’s more, on about nine minutes into the game, he was at it again, this time putting the visiting keeper under pressure as he came out to collect a long ball into his area and this produced an error from the keeper, which Francis capitalised upon again for his second goal.

Things could not be going better really for the G’s, and with their tails up they pressed the visitor’s goal again and hit each of the uprights with separate shots in the space of 30 seconds in a single sustained attack.

Then with the G’s rampant and half-time beckoning Darren pulled up injured after a short attack and was replaced by Jordan Cavender, who had such an impressive debut in the first team at Rusthall last week. FC Deportivo No 2 booked.

Francis made another impressive run down the left and delivered the ball inside for Jordan Cavenger beautifully. Jordan hit a great shot, but this time the visiting keeper was up to it and made a good diving save. Rory Sellick was carrying an old injury from the last few weeks and finally gave way for Dom Hardisty to come on.

Then Francis made another stunning run on the left turning his marker inside out several times and cut inside before hitting a peach of a shot that curled into the top right-hand corner. Completely unstoppable. Great to see the lads enjoy the goal with him.

With the G’s again mounting an attack the visiting keeper made three amazing saves from point blank range, one after another, with the ball finally being turned around for another G’s corner Jordan made a good save at the last knockings when diving at the feet, one on one with an advancing forward to keep a clean sheet.

A great result for the lads, which should boost their confidence. Again, Raisan was outstanding for me amongst a string of good performances. Rory was again gutsy and brave in defence, not his favourite position. Kenny was getting lots of the ball down the right and was unlucky not to get on the score sheet. Richie was getting more into it in the second half and delivered some stunning through balls for Francis to get on to.

Lots more hard work to do to get out of the danger zone, but if we can keep these guys together and fit to play, we will be seeing a few more wins and, with a few more three pointers in the bag, we should climb up the table

2 in 1 Bovril – the drink that’s sweeping the nation – now at the Oven Door!!!  It starts with a light watery beef consomme-delicately peppered with hints of meadow grass and cowslip.  Then – on the very last mouthful – Bang!  In yer face. A dollop of super salty sludge that brings tears to your eyes!  2 great taste sensations in the one cup. Amazing!
