The season opener at Wey Court saw five goals scored, unfortunately all for Paulton. Mike Perott opened the scoring, scrambling home from close range from a corner that Godalming failed to clear in the 16th minute. Former Newport County striker Jake Harris then added Rovers second with a near post finish, before adding the third two minutes later with a unstoppable 30 yard strike that dipped just under the crossbar, leaving Courtnage no chance. Godalming’s best chance of the half came from a long throw into the box, but they failed to test Lewis Pierre in the visitors goal.
Godalming started well in the second half, with Broome and Mazzone going close. However Paulton added a fourth in the 72nd minute, James Billing slotting past Courtnage. The final goal came in the 81st minute, when Adam Everiss put the ball into his own net after a cross from the left hand side.
Godalming travel to Wimborne on Tuesday and will be looking for a much improved performance to get the first points on board.
