League top scorer Mark Gamble’s fifth minute goal was enough to earn visitors Wimborne the three points at a windy Wey Court. Gamble took advantage as Godalming failed to clear their lines early on, striking from six yards out, through keeper Oualah’s legs. Dan Read had Godalming’s best chance of the half, but fired his effort over the bar when through on goal. Chris Musgrove saw a header go wide from a corner for Godalming, in what was a tight first half.
Godalming ramped up the pressure in the second half, and started to test the Wimborne defence. Despite the pressure, chances were at a premium, and it was Wimborne who nearly doubled their lead against the run of play, but Stokoe’s volley flew over the crossbar. Godalming continued to pressure, with Wimborne keeper Jason Harvell having to make a number of fine saves to deny the Gs. First Jack Broome had a 30 yard effort that looked destined for the top corner superbly saved by Jason Harvell, before Dan Read almost snatched a point in the dying minutes, but his improvised effort with Harvell stranded went agonisingly wide of the post.
Godalming are next in action on Tuesday 12th November, when Egham Town are the visitors to Wey Court for a Red Insure Cup match.
