Godalming won their first game of the season 1-0, as they overcame Burnham in unbearably hot conditions. The Gs had the better of the opening exchanges, but Burnham fought back, with a number of good chances wasted. Godalming took the lead after 37 minutes when George Short was clattered from behind in the penalty area. Darren Wheeler converted the resulting penalty.
Burnham hit the inside of the post early in the second half, and wasted a further good chance. The visitors were reduced to ten men midway through the half when Dan Wilment was sent off for a second bookable offence. The game petered out in the sweltering conditions, and Godalming held on for the 3 points.
The Gs travel to Beaconsfield SYCOB on Monday, looking to double their points tally.
