A goal from Jack Mazzone proved to be the difference in an evenly contested match between Godalming and Fleet Town.
A bright start from Godalming saw Dan Read go close twice in the opening 20 minutes, firstly he was denied by keeper Ryan Pryce’s knee, before he fired a point volley which fortunately for Fleet was straight at the goalkeeper. Jack Mazzone and Darren Wheeler both forced saves out of Pryce, before Fleet had their best chance of the match on 40 minutes. Firstly Victor Kiri blocked a shot from Jack White, before Zaki Oualah made a fine double save to keep the rebounds at bay. Godalming took the lead in the 44th minute, when the in-form Jack Mazzone’s cross looped over Pryce and into the far corner.
Fleet took the game to Godalming in the second half, knowing three points could potentially see them move off the bottom of the table. Former Fleet player Nick Hutchings came to the Gs rescue in the 58th minute, clearing off the line after Craig Stanley had rounded the keeper. Jack White and Rob Carr both went close for Fleet, whilst at the other end Sam De St Croix had a rare shot for Godalming. Godalming had a chance to double their lead in the 88th minute, when a penalty as awarded after Joe Gater blocked an on target George Bowerman shot with his hand. The former receiving a yellow card for his actions. Jack Broome stepped up to take the spot kick, but his effort was saved low to Pryce’s right.
