Godalming secured a vital three points against fellow play off contenders Worthing in an entertaining match at Wey Court. Town took an early lead when Scott Harris fired past Alan Mansfield after a cross from Josh Pearson. Worthing had a succession of corners but failed to test Jake Somerville. Brett Cooper hit the post for the hosts with Mansfield beaten. Mike Huckett had a golden chance to equalise for Worthing when they were awarded a penalty near the end of the first half, but he cannoned the ball off the crossbar – his second penalty miss in consecutive matches.
Godalming started stronger in the the second half, with chances falling to both Scott Harris and Dan Read. Worthing were always a threat, and Tom Manton was inches away from equalising at the far post. Jamie Brotherton had a mazy run deep into injury time, but his speculative effort went narrowly over the crossbar.
Godalming finish 2011 with two wins and two clean sheets. They will look to extend this against Whyteleafe on Monday afternoon.
