Godalming’s 7 game winning streak came to an end, as they drew 1-1 against a spirited Chertsey side. The opening exchanges of the game were even, with both sides creating a couple of half chances. Godalming drew first blood when Warren Harris volleyed into the net from just outside the area after 12 minutes. Scott Harris then had a close range shot well blocked by the Chertsey defender. The visitors came close when a looping header hit the top of the crossbar, but Godalming took a 1-0 lead into half time.
The second half continued as an even affair, although the visitors started growing more dominant, but despite their possession they failed to really carve out any clear chances. The Gs best chance of the half fell to Antonio Simeone, but he mistimed his header well wide of the goal. Jamie McClurg nearly wrapped up the points for Godalming in the 88th minute, but his long range volley came back off the post. A questionable free-kick was awarded to Chertsey on the corner of the penalty area in the 95th minute, and the looping kick was bundled into the net at the far post.
The draw is the first time the Gs have not picked up 3 points in a league game since a 1-1 draw at eventual Ryman South champions Whitehawk back on the 31st March. Godalming are back in action this Saturday, when they entertain North Greenford United at Wey Court. Kick off 3pm.
