An 88th minute penalty from league top scorer Richard Gregory ensured Stratford left Wey Court with three points, despite falling behind in the first half.
Mark Watkins was Godalming’s brightest player in opening stages, twice delivering dangerous crosses, but with no Gs forward on the end of them. Godalming took the lead in the 29th minute, when a long ball down the middle saw the keeper rush out of his area, but was beaten in the air by Graeme Purdy whose header bounced into the back of the net. Ten minutes later and the visitors equalised, Richard Gregory latching onto a through ball, with Zaki Oualah saving his first effort but helpless to do anything about the converted rebound.
Stratford started the second half well, and had a penalty appeal turned down when Guy Clark went down in the area, but was instead booked for diving. Clearances from Gavin Miller and Jack Broome, as well as a smart save at the feet of Tyrone Fagan from Zaki Oualah kept the scores level, whilst at the other end Mark Watkins produced a rare shot from Godalming which was collected at the second attempt by Sam Brady. With two minutes left Chris Sterling’s mazy run into the penalty area was ended when Jack Broome tripped him, with the referee pointing to the penalty spot. Richard Gregory stepped up to smash home his 39th goal of the season.
Godalming travel to Fleet Town on Bank Holiday Monday (3pm), before hosting Taunton Town next Saturday in the final game of the season.
Gs XI: Oualah, Broome, Miller, Musgrove, Hutchings, Kiri (Mazzone), Wales, De St Croix, Purdy (Read), Watkins (Bowerman), Wheeler.
