Two goals from the in-form Darren Wheeler saw off an unbeaten Beaconsfield SYCOB side ay Wey Court on Saturday.
Godalming dominated the opening exchanges of the match, keeping the ball well and harassing the opposition when they were without. The early pressure paid off, when in the 11th minute Darren Wheeler received a pass from Louis Hutton, and cut in from the right, riding three SYCOB’s challenges before slotting the ball low past keeper Sam Bunting. Jack Mazzone came close to doubling the lead soon after, but his effort was blocked by the oncoming Bunting. Beaconsfield rarely threatened the Gs goal, with Ossai have to turn away a Charlie Losasso free kick, and then save well after a fierce effort from Elliott Carey just before the half time whistle.
Sam Bunting once again came to Beaconsfield’s rescue, blocking a powerful volley from Mazzone at the start of the second half. Godalming got a deserved second goal in the 70th minute. A foul on Louis Hutton just outside the penalty area saw Darren Wheeler step up to curl the ball over the wall and into the top corner for his fifth goal in three games. Bunting was again at hand to deny another Mazzone effort, whilst Godalming retained the ball well for the final stages of the game, snuffing out any chance of a possible comeback from the visitors.
