A mixed Godalming side lost 2-0 to playoff chasing Beaconsfield SYCOB, in the penultimate game of the league season. The opening exchanges were fairly even, with neither side managing to test the keeper. The visitors came closest in the first half, when they were awarded a penalty for a handball. However, Yashwa Romeo’s spot kick was well saved by Jake Somerville, low to his left. SYCOB pounced quickly onto the rebound, squaring the ball for Gavin James who bundled into the net, only to be ruled offside by the linesman.
Beaconsfield took the lead in the 51st minute, when Ryan Upward struck a free kick from just outside the area over the wall and into the top corner. Somerville then made a couple of good stops to keep Beaconsfield from doubling their lead. Godalming had a penalty appeal turned down as the game drew towards a finish, and in the final moments Aaron Couch fired hard and low into the bottom corner from 12 yards to give SYCOB their second goal.
