Godalming maintained their 100% start to the season after a 2-0 victory over local rivals Fleet Town. Two goals in each half from Scott Harris – taking his tally to six for the season – meant that the Gs have won their three opening league games, and are yet to concede a goal.
It was the visitors who had the first chance of the game, but couldn’t convert after a scramble in the box. Godalming took the lead after 3o minutes, when Scott Harris was first to a free kick to head home. Harris went close 10 minutes later, but his fierce volley was well blocked by Gavin Miller.
An even second half saw Harris and Dyer both go close, and Godalming had an appeal for a penalty turned down when a George Short strike appeared to hit the raised arms of the Fleet defender. Godalming wrapped up the points in the 79th minute, when Harris scored his fifth goal of the bank holiday weekend – a left footed volley past Ryan Pryce.
Godalming travel to Rugby Town next Saturday, looking to maintain the superb start to the season. If you would like to book a seat on the coach, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
