Godalming’s fourth league win in a row came against Folkestone Invicta at a foggy Wey Court. The first real action of the game came after 20 minutes, when Scott Harris thought he’d give Town the lead, only to have be adjudged to have fouled the Invicta keeper Jack Delo in the process. Jon Palmer went close 13 minutes later, but his fierce shot went just wide of the post. It was leading scorer Scott Harris who gave Godalming the lead on the stroke of half time, as he chested the ball down and fired his volley into the bottom corner from 12 yards.
Godalming could have doubled their lead seconds after the restart when Ben Edwards got on the end of a Darren Wheeler cross, but his shot was straight at Delo. Wheeler then went close himself, but his shot went over the bar with the Invicta keeper stranded. Godalming did get a second on 78 minutes, when Dan Read header found the bottom corner, following a whipped cross from Wheeler. Folkestone hit back straight away, with Josh Vincent grabbing their goal, but the Gs held on for a deserved three points.
Next up for Godalming is Blue Square North side Worcester City in the FA Cup Second Qualifying Round, at Wey Court this Saturday. Kick off 3pm.
