Godalming defeated Ryman Premier side Met. Police 2-1 to make it through to the Final of the Surrey Senior Cup. An uneventful first half at a bitterly cold Wey Court produced few chances of note, Wes Harrison going closest for the Gs with a looping cross which came back off Jamie Butler’s crossbar. With neither side managing to fashion out any clear cut chances, the teams entered the half time break at 0-0.
The Met. crossbar was rattled once again early in the second half, when a looping Jack Broome free kick caught Butler unaware as the ball bounced off the top of the bar. The Gs took the lead in the 57th minute, when Butler’s sliced kick from the edge of the area found Jamie McClurg just inside the centre circle, who volleyed the ball 45 yards over the scrambling Butler and into the net. Extra time looked to be on the cards when centre back Gary MacDonald headed in from a corner to make it 1-1 in the 82nd minute. The Gs weren’t finished however, as Adam Foulser fired the ball with the outside of his foot into the corner of the net, to make it 2-1 with just a couple of minutes remaining. Godalming held on to earn themselves a place in the Surrey Senior Cup Final, where they will face either AFC Wimbledon or Sutton United at Gander Green Lane on Tuesday 7th May.
Godalming return to league action this Saturday when they host 15th places Aylsebury, before travelling to Thatcham on Monday then hosting Leighton on Wednesday.
