Godalming progressed to the last sixteen of the Red Insure Cup with a 3-0 win over Southern Central side Egham Town.
Godalming got off to the best possible start, when after six minutes Jack Mazzone found himself with some space 25 yards from goal, and struck a curling effort which looped over the Egham keeper, Gary Ross, and into the top corner. Egham started for press for an equalising goal as the half drew on, but their efforts were thwarted by the in-form Zaki Oualah in the Godalming goal. One time Godalming midfielder Joe Chandiram went close, while Andy Crossley had an effort comfortably saved by Oualah.
Oualah was called into action early in the second half, saving superbly from a header by Brendan Matthew. Godalming had chances to extend their lead, firstly Graeme Purdy’s touch letting him down when through on goal, and then Jon Palmer had a speculative lob go narrowly wide. Godalming sealed the tie in the 84th minute, when Jack Mazzone’s strike was parried by Gary Ross, but sub Jon Palmer was on hand to tuck in the rebound. There was still time for the Gs to add to their lead, when a trademark Chris Musgrove header found the back of the net from a corner.
Godalming travel to Clevedon Town this weekend, with the next home match being on Saturday 23rd November, when we host Mangotsfield United.
