A first half Jack Broome double along with a second half strike from Jack Mazzone saw Godalming run out 3-1 winners against Yate Town, completing a double over the Gloucester side. A lively start from Godalming saw Jack Mazzone strike the outside of post with a low effort from 20 yards. Fifteen minutes in and Godalming took the lead via Jack Broome. Darren Wheeler found Dan Read after a mazy run, who crossed the ball for Jack Broome to tuck away at the far post. Yate dangerman Lewis Haldane came close for the visitors, but his effort was saved with Jake Cox skying the rebound. Godalming doubled their lead on 38 minutes, Jack Mazzone skipped past the Yate defender on the left wing, before squaring the ball to Jack Broome who fired in off the inside of the post from the edge of the area.
Three minutes into the second half and Godalming were three goals up. The lively Mazzone nicking the ball away from the Yate keeper, who had rushed outside his area, before lobbing the ball calmly over the covering Yate defender. The game petered out from this point on, with Darren Wheeler’s enticing crosses being Godalming’s main threat. Yate threatened occasionally, mainly via corners, but Godalming defender resolutely, until the 93rd minute when Joe Chandler headed home to give Yate a consolation goal.
Godalming host Thatcham Town at Wey Court this Saturday, before local rivals Fleet Town visit on Tuesday.
