Pre-season got off to a winning start as Godalming defeated Hellenic League side Marlow 4-3 on a 3G pitch at Aldershot. Marlow took the lead in the first half after a powerful free kick from out wide found it’s way into the back of the net. The Gs equalised on the stroke of half time when Darren Wheeler chipped in from a tight angle. 30 seconds into the second half an innocuous challenge saw a Marlow player taken off in an ambulance with a suspected broken leg. Everyone at Godalming wishes him a speedy recovery. Marlow took the lead soon after, but Wes Harrison equalised with a 25 yard strike into the bottom corner. Trialist Sean Latimer then gave Godalming the lead with an acrobatic finish, and Paul Harkness then scored the Gs fourth after a good cross from Wheeler. Marlow pulled one back with not long left.
Tuesday’s friendly against Sandhurst will now be played at the 3g pitch in Aldershot, instead of at Sandhurst’s ground. Directions to Aldershot Garrison here.
