Godalming defeated Leighton Town – and the weather – to close the gap on the top two sides to two points. With the rain coming down heavily, the game was never going to be pretty on a soaking pitch. Warren Harris fired low into the corner to give the Gs the lead after ten minutes. Darren Wheeler then double the lead ten minutes later with a powerful effort, before Ben Edwards headed Godalming 3-0 up on 36 minutes. Johnnie Dyer then slotted home from close range to give the Gs a 4-0 lead at half time.
Dan Read headed Godalming 5-0 up early in the second half, but the deteriorating conditions effected the remainder of the game, with Leighton’s keeper Sam Mazurek made some fine saves to keep the score at 5-0.
Godalming now look forward to a double header against Slough Town, away this Saturday before hosting “The Rebels” on Tuesday.
