Godalming thumped Burgess Hill seven nil to move within two points of the playoffs. It didn’t take long for Godalming to get the ball rolling, with Jon Palmer finishing a rebound after a Jamie McClurg strike in the opening few minutes. The second came 17 minutes later, after Darren Wheeler’s floated a cross to the far post leaving Scott Harris to head home from close range. Burgess Hill had barely kicked off before the ball was in the net again, this time a deep cross from Wes Harrison was headed home by Dan Read from 6 yards. Scott Harris rattled the frame of the goal with a thumping effort, before Darren Wheeler was tripped in the box, and stepped up himself to convert the resulting penalty just before half time.
Scott Harris had a chance to extend the Gs lead again, but his one on one effort was well saved by the Hillians keeper. The Gs made it 5 in the 69th minute, when Antonio Simeone headed home a Darren Wheeler free kick. 8 minutes later and it was 6-0, this time Scott Harris converted his one on one. Darren Wheeler rounded off the scoring in the 89th minute, after breaking through the Burgess Hill defence, he rounded the keeper and slotted the ball into the empty net.
Godalming travel to Hythe on Saturday, knowing a win could potentially see them finish the day in a playoff spot.
