Godalming’s second game of the season ended in a 2-1 defeat to Dorset side Wimborne Town. The Gs made a lively start to the game, with Greame Purdy and Jack Mazzone going close. The home side took the lead on 15minutes against the run of play, when a header came back off the crossbar and fell to Mark Gamble, who headed over the line from close range. Godalming responded instantly, when Dan Seabrook fired an unstoppable shot into the top corner from 25 yards. Wimborne took the lead 10 minutes later from the penalty spot. Gavin Miller was judged to have tripped a Wimborne player in the area, and Micky Hubbard stepped up and converted the penalty into the bottom left corner. Wimborne had the better of the rest of the half, and the teams entered the break at 2-1.
Godalming went close through Miller and Mazzone in a second half of few chances. Godalming brought on a Victor Kiri, Dan Read and Chris Musgrove to try and grab an equaliser, and it nearly came in the dying seconds when Graeme Purdy was inches away from diverting the ball into the net from a ball across the goal.
Godalming travel to a Bishops Cleeve this Saturday, with both sides still looking to register their first points of the season.
