An entertaining match at Bourne Park saw Maidstone triumph 4-2 and go top of the Ryman South table.
It was the Gs who drew first blood however, with Darren Wheeler firing a low shot from 18 yards into the bottom corner after 9 minutes. Maidstone got back into the game as Alex Waugh converted from a corner on the half hour mark, and it was Waugh again who gave Maidstone the lead 5 minutes later with a driven shot from close range.
Alex Flisher put the home side 3-1 after 57 minutes, but Scott Harris finished from close range to make it 3-2 with just over 10 minutes remaining. Adam Foulser then thought he had equalised, but the referee deemed his effort not to have crossed the line, to the amazement of the Godalming players and supporters. Shaun Welford added Maidstone’s fourth in stoppage time.
A much improved performance from last Saturday, the Gs gave the league leaders a real run for their money and will be disappointed to come away empty handed.
Next up is Faversham Town at home, this Saturday at Wey Court, kick off 3pm.
Godalming team: Lee Pearce, Guy Hollis, Adam Foulser, Antonio Simeone (Damien Smith), Ryan Lake, George Short (Gav Smith), Brett Cooper, Jamie McClurg, Darren Wheeler, Jon Palmer (Wes Harrison), Scott Harris.
