A last minute goal once again denied Godalming all three points, this time at Mangotsfield United. The returning Darren Wheeler started as part of a three pronged attack alongside Graeme Purdy and Jack Mazzone. A scrappy opening failed to produce any chances for either side in an uneventful first 20 minutes. Mangotsfield forced a sharp reflex save from Zaki Oualah, with the rebound being scrambled clear by Chris Musgrove. At the other end Sam De St Croix saw his snapshot float harmlessly over the crossbar. The home side had an extended spell of pressure as the half drew on, but failed to capitalise after a succession of corners.
Mangotsfield maintained the pressure levels in the second half, however despite the majority of the possession they weren’t really troubling the Godalming goal. Zaki Oualah saved well from Darren Edwards at the near post, Mangotsfield’s best chance of the half so far. Godalming took the lead on 79 minutes, Graeme Purdy striking a bouncing ball from 30 yards, and the ball flew high and dipped over Kevin Sawyer’s outstretched hand. Mangotsfield threw bodies forwards in an attempt to find an equaliser, and the pressure paid off when Reeko Best scrambled the ball over the line in the 89th minute to secure a point. Darren Wheeler came close to sneaking a late winner, but his free kick was parried out by Sawyer.
Godalming now have four home matches in a row, starting with Yate Town this Tuesday.
