Godalming fell to a heavy defeat in South Wales with Merthyr Town running out comfortable 5-0 winners. The Gs went 1-0 down after only 7 minutes when a low shot from a tight angle beat Oualah in the Gs goal. The Godalming defence held firm against heavy pressure for most of the half, with the best attacking chances coming from a Calum Nimmo header, and a fierce strike from Jack Broome which was parried by the goalkeeper. Godalming held out until first half injury time when Ian Traylor doubled the home sides lead when he turned in a cross from Ryan Laville.
Traylor scored his hat trick on 72 minutes, finishing well from 10 yards out, and Kerry Morgan made it 4-0 with a great strike into the top corner, leaving Oualah no chance. Godalming had chances to pull a goal back, sub Jack Mazzone forced the keeper into a couple of saves, whilst Dan Read put an effort over the crossbar. Substitute Jon Palmer saw red for Godalming for a late challenge before the home side made it 5-0 with six minutes remaining, Ian Traylor bagging his fourth of the game.
Godalming are in home action this Tuesday’s, when we welcome Shortwood United to Wey Court.
