Three well worked goals and an impressive all round performance saw Godalming Town run out 3-1 winners in Hertfordshire. After Will Hutton gave the Gs a first-half lead George Frith and Graeme Purdy made it 3 before Josh Hutchinson, the hosts leading scorer this season, scored a consolation with a minute to go.
Tyler Hatherly had the first efforts for the Scholars before Will Hutton shot over in the 11th minute. With Louis Hutton playing a more advanced role the Gs were looking tricky going forward and they took the lead after just 14 minutes. Liam Roberts played in the on-loan Brentford youngster in from the left and he weaved past both Dan Odamo and Sean Grace before pulling the ball back for brother Will to side-foot into the top corner.
Richard Ossai saved a Josh Oyinsan free kick 10 minutes later before Frith was denied by Ben Goode at the other end. The Gs came close to doubling their lead just before the break when Will and Louis Hutton again combined, this time setting up Purdy who shot wide.
The visitors did make it 2 just 5 minutes after the break, however, with another beautifully crafted goal. Again Roberts did well down the left and his excellent cross was headed down by Purdy, allowing Frith to rifle a first time volley in off the bar from the edge of the box.
Potters Bar responded with a triple substitution but the Gs were rampant, and they made it 3 in the 68th minute. Roberts, a strong candidate for man of the match, found Darren Wheeler and his sumptuous flick played Purdy in. The striker had harangued the Scholars centre-backs all afternoon and he emphatically placed a finish beyond the stationary Goode and into the top corner.
Ossai made saves from Lamar Simpson and Hutchinson before being beaten with a minute remaining. Ben Bowditch curled in a free kick from the right and the striker headed in his 22nd goal of an impressive season, however not enough to dampen the Gs spirit on a fine afternoon for them.
Wey Court will play host to two matches over the Easter Weekend as Leighton Town and Uxbridge visit, before the Gs travel to Bedford Town the following Saturday.
