Godalming came away from Ramsgate with a hard fought point on Tuesday night. The home side took the lead after six minutes when James Gregory’s powerful finish found the corner of the net. Ramsgate were two up ten minutes later, as Simon Pettit scrambled the ball just over the line. Godalming hit back through Darren Wheeler on 29 minutes, when he expertly controlled a great crossfield ball from Antonio Simeone, and the ball then fell kindly for him to tuck away through the defender on the lines legs.
Godalming were on top for most of the second half, and Rams keeper Danny Twyman made two smart saves to keep the Gs out, firstly from a deflection off his own defender, and then a reaction save from Jamie McClurg. The equaliser came from Dan Read in the 72 minute, after Wheeler raced onto a flick on from Gav Smith, then squared the ball for Read who slid the ball past the keeper. This led to a frantic end to the match, with both sides striving for a winner. Godalming’s closest effort came when Ben Edward’s shot slid narrowly past the post.
A well earned point in a game where Godalming only had one recognised defender on the pitch due to suspensions and injuries. The Gs now face Sittingbourne at home on Saturday, kick off 3pm.
