Godalming made it 6 out of 6 in the league, after a 3-1 victory at Royston. The Gs started strongly, with Warren Harris causing problems on the right side. Dan Read then forced a reaction stop out of keeper Will Norris from close range. Godalming made the breakthrough on 25 minutes, when Dan Read’s header from a Darren Wheeler corner was deflected in off the Royston defender. Adam Foulser saw his header from a corner fly narrowly past the post a few minutes later.
Godalming doubled their lead 15 minutes into the second half, when Foulser headed the ball against the post, Dan Read was the first to react, tucking in the rebound from 5 yards. Read was then denied a hat-trick after he put the ball in the net after Antonio Simeone’s free kick was saved, but he was judged to be offside. Royston pulled one back with ten minutes remaining, Jack Bradshaw finding the top corner, leaving Somerville no chance. With a few minutes remaining, Adam Foulser was sent off for Godalming, after the Royston player who was marking him collapsed to the floor. Johnnie Dyer then received a straight red card, after tripping a Royston player in the aftermath. With Royston pushing for the equaliser, Darren Wheeler broke free for Godalming on the left, before cutting inside to finish past Norris to secure the 3 points.
Godalming are next in action in two weeks time when they travel to Barton Rovers.
