Godalming continued their fine start to the season with a convincing 3-0 victory over Rugby Town. Godalming had the better of the opening stages, troubling the Rugby defence from set pieces. The home side grew more dominant as the second half went on, looking lively up front but failing to really test Somerville. Godalming took the lead on the half hour mark when a corner from Darren Wheeler was headed straight in by Johnnie Dyer, after keeper David Bevan had misjudged his punch.
The second half started out as an even affair, with Jake Somerville making a crucial one on one block, to keep Godalming ahead. Soon after Jake had made the save, Ben Edwards capitalised on a defensive error to beat Bevan cooly from a one on one. Jack Broome fired the Gs into a 3-0 lead with 15 minutes left, after Ryan Lake had found him unmarked on the edge of the area from a free kick. Adam Foulser nearly made it four, but his header from a corner narrowly went past the post.
The win leaves Godalming top of the table on goal difference – yet to concede a goal. The Gs face Uxbridge at Wey Court on Tuesday, kick off 7.45pm.
