A close game saw Shortwood United get two important goals to move them into the playoffs, whilst Godalming left empty handed, despite having the majority of possession in a close encounter.
The night got off to the worst possible start for Godalming, when the home side took the lead after 2 minutes, a swift counter attack from a Gs corner saw Duncan Culley fire past Zaki Oualah. Despite having large amounts of possession, Godalming were failing to test the Shortwood keeper, kept at bay by an organised back four.
The second half continued in the same vein, but Godalming did manage to call Tom King into action. Firstly King was on hand to palm away a Jack Mazzone effort, before getting down low to turn away Graeme Purdy’s long range strike.
Shortwood doubled their lead on 62 minutes, when Duncan Culley lobbed the ball over Zaki Oualah, which was cleared by Lee Wigley only for Culley to follow up and tuck home the rebound. The game petered out from this point, with the home side looking comfortably and forcing Oualah into a couple more saves to keep the score at 2-0.
Gs XI: Oualah, MacFarlane, Wigley, Musgrove, Hutchings, Kiri, Wales, Broome, Bowerman, Mazzone, Purdy.
