Godalming 1 – 4 South Park
It has been suggested that I just say refer to previous reports as the story seems to be the same.
Without Rory Sellick, Jack Warburton,(both injured) Bobby Dormer and the Development squad playing away at Hartney Whintney the squad was: Oneal Garnes in goal, newcomer Callum Eagles at right back, Sean Mason returning at left back with Chris Musgrove and Carl Garstang the centre backs. Steve Brown, Chris Wales Darren Wheeler and Nick Sowden the midfielders and Graeme Purdy and Matt Bunyan upfront. Wiliam Efambe and Piers Oldland were named on the bench.
Gs did have to defend strongly in the first half, but did so well beyond the first fifteen minutes where so many time in the past we have conceded. Then we went behind to a scrambled goal in the 32nd minutes, when I am advised it appears the ball was handled to lift it over Oneal and Chris Wales on the ground enabling it to be put in the net from close range. Anyway whatever the story the ref did not see it that way.
The good thing is that after going in at half time 1-0 down Dan appeared to change things positionally allowing the midfield players to get forward more and this put the visitors under a bit more pressure until we won a corner out on the right swung in by Darren Wheeler, which was headed towards goal by Chris Musgrove, but must have been blocked somehow as it fell to Graeme Purdy to finish it off from close range.
This gave the real feeling that just maybe we could get something out of the game against opposition who have a very professional set up and have been very successful in the cup tournaments; hence they have played so many fewer games.
Having levelled the score we then saw Darren Wheeler lob the ball over the keeper and into the net only to be ruled offside.
But you do not get any luck when you are at the bottom of the table as I have said far too often this season.
Things then really went downhill when Carl Garstang was given a second yellow card on 63 minutes and dismissed, leaving the home side with just 10 men again.
This meant that Graeme Purdy was required to sit in at centre back again when he had battled well up front alongside Matt Bunyan.
Five minutes later the visitors made the Gs pay for trying to attack when they broke well and with some good passing scored their second. William Efambe came on to replace Steve Brown.
A third followed within minutes when a free kick was awarded to the visitors to the right of the Gs area. The ball was crossed to the far side and headed home apparently unopposed.
The fourth came ten minutes from time with home supporters claiming the scorer was well offside. Again the officials did not agree.
No stats from Michael I am afraid as he is not well. Hope he recovers soon.
Dan will I am sure get the lads up for a re-arranged visit to East Grinstead on Tuesday night. We must get our share of luck some time. It can’t come soon enough.
