Sutton United 6-0 Godalming Town

Godalming fell to a heavy defeat in the Surrey Senior Cup at the hands of Blue Square South side Sutton United. The Gs handed Callum Eagle a debut at right back, with Damien Smith slotting into the midfield and Jon Palmer starting up front. It took Sutton ten minutes to take the lead, when Joel Ledgister converted Harry Beautyman’s cross with a calm finish. It was 2-0 five minutes later when a mix up between Ryan Lake and Jake Somerville saw the former poke the ball into his own net. A four minute hat trick starting in the 33rd minute for Kyle Vassell meant that Sutton entered the half time break with a commanding lead.

Vassell scored his fourth, and the only goal of the second half in the 64th minute when he took the ball round the oncoming Somerville to tap into an empty net. Godalming were largely restricted to long range efforts, with Sutton’s keeper Wayne Shaw tipping over well from Darren Wheeler.

Godalming will return to league action this Saturday, when they welcome Walton Casuals to Wey Court, kick off 3pm.
