A crazy 7 minute spell at the start of the second half proved to be Godalming’s downfall after they had produced a good first half performance.
The home side got off to the best possible start on 6 minutes, after Lee Wigley fouled 25 yards out, Josh Parsons deflected free kick found its way into the top corner. Godalming responded well, keeping possession and getting shots off, despite being off target. Godalming levelled the match on 18 minutes, after Mark Watkins was fouled just inside the penalty area, and Jack Broome accurately placed the ball into the bottom corner from the spot. Godalming had further chances when Jack Mazzone fired narrowly wide, and Gavin Miller headed over from a corner.
With Godalming narrowly shading the first half, Swindon came out firing in the second. Firstly Ashley Edenborough fired past Zaki Oualah low into the bottom corner in the 49th minute, and only 2 minutes later Josh Parsons struck a powerful shot into the top corner. The final goal of the game came in the 54th minute, when a high cross wasn’t dealt with by Oualah, and headed in from a yard by Ashley Edenborough for his second goal. A stunned Godalming tried to get a foothold in the game, but were dealt another blow when stand in centre back Lee Wigley went off injured, with Victor Kiri moving to centre back. Kiri and Read both had chances to pull a goal back, but the game fizzled out, halted for a while by an injury to a Supermarine player which saw the home side see out the final stages with ten men.
Godalming travel to Bridgwater Town this Tuesday, before hosting Clevedon Town on Saturday.
