Godalming recorded their fourth away win of the season with a hard fought 2-1 win over Taunton Town. Even early exchanges saw Godalming successfully get through the opening 15 minutes without conceding – and in fact it was the Gs who took the lead after 19 minutes. Jack Broome’s corner to the far post was met by the head of Chris Musgrove, who headed home despite having a defenders arm wrapped around his neck. The home side had a half-hearted penalty appeal soon after, and then rattled the crossbar when Chris Young struck from a tight angle. Godalming went 2-0 up on 37 minutes, when a deep Mark Watkins cross was met by the head of Graeme Purdy, whose powerful header left Taunton keeper Kyle Moore no chance.
Taunton came out searching for a goal in the second half, with their top scorer Nat Pepperell having a shot deflected over. Sam De St Croix should have wrapped up the points for Godalming, but he sliced horribly wide from 12 yards from a George Bowerman cross. Chris Young then had an effort cleared of off the line for the home side, which a large proportion of the ground seemed to think was in. Taunton found the breakthrough in injury time when Steve Kingdon fired a powerful shot into the roof of the net, but it was too little too late Taunton, who lost their 7 game unbeaten run, which included 6 victories.
