Godalming recorded their third successive win over league struggler’s Whyteleafe at Church Road on Monday. Town got off to a good start when sustained pressure led to captain Adam Foulser heading in a long Guy Hollis throw on 24 minutes. Godalming came close again, but Dan Read’s cross was crucially intercepted by ‘leafe keeper Paul Smith, which would have left Scott Harris with a tap in.
Godalming doubled their lead ten minutes into the second half when a mazy run from Josh Pearson set free Dan Read, who finished from close range. The match seemed to fizzle out in the closing stages, but Whyteleafe snatched a goal back in the 81st minute via Danny Dudley, setting up a frantic last ten minutes. Whyteleafe failed to create any meaningful chances after their goal, which meant the Gs departed Church Road with a deserved three points.
Godalming XI: Somerville, Hollis, Foulser, Simeone, Harrison, Pearson, Edwards, Cooper (McClurg), Palmer (Lake), Read, Harris. Subs not used: Baker, D.Smith.
