Godalming were beaten 4-0 at the A2b Stadium last night by Worthing. The Gs, who were missing strikers Gav Smith, Scott Harris and Dan Read started with Wes Harrison up front, Jon Palmer came in to replace the injured Brett Cooper, and George Short replaced Simon Dunn.
Worthing took the lead after only 11 minutes, when Tom Lawley finished past Norris from 15 yards. The Sussex side doubled their lead after 25 minutes after Manton squared the ball for Brotherton, who finished from 12 yards. The Gs best chance of the half came when Ryan Lake’s header was well saved by Alan Mansfield. Worthing were awarded a penalty at the end of the half, when Lake fouled Brotherton, but Jamie Norris saved the penalty down to his right.
After a disappointing first half, Godalming started the second half much brighter, and Jon Palmer could have halved the deficit, but his volley went the wrong side of the post. Palmer had a similar chance soon after, but was well blocked by the Worthing defender. Worthing got their third with ten minutes left, through Steve Metcalf, and their fourth came in stoppage time through substitute Mark Pulling.
The Gs travel to Stompond Lane on Saturday to face Walton & Hersham, kick off 3pm.
