Two second half goals from Jack Mazzone secured a 3-1 victory for Godalming away at Yate Town.
Godalming opened the scoring at a wet Lodge Road from the penalty spot in the 23rd minute. Mark Watkins was felled in the area by Yate’s Jake Cox, and Sam De St Croix stepped up to convert the penalty low to the keepers left. The home side equalised 4 minutes later when former Port Vale winger Lewis Haldane shot well past Zaki Oualah. Yate applied some pressure as the half drew on, with Rodgers placing a shot just wide of the post.
Yate dominated possession in the early stages of the second half, however they failed to really test Oualah. Godalming took the lead in the 69th minute when substitute Jack Mazzone finished well into the bottom corner after Dan Seabrook’s shot had been blocked. Mazzone came close to getting his second ten minutes later, but he fired over from 8 yards with the goal at his mercy. The home side pushed for an equaliser, but their lofted efforts into the box were well dealt with by the impressive Miller and Musgrove. Godalming sealed the three points in the 90th minute, when Jack Mazzone twisted and turned and fired off a shot which was blocked, but the rebound came back to him and he converted at the second opportunity.
Godalming are next in action on Tuesday 29th October, when we welcome Cirencester Town to Wey Court.
